Ramadhan2021-Covid19

Written on 03/01/2021

Indeed all praise is due to Allah; we seek His help, and we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever Allah misguides, none can guide. We bear witness there is no diety worthy of worship except for Allah, the One Who has no partner, and we bear witness that Muhammad  is His servant and messenger.

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

(Quran 3: 102)

O humanity! Be mindful of your Lord Who created you from a single soul, and from it He created its mate, and through both He spread countless men and women. And be mindful of Allah—in Whose Name you appeal to one another—and honour family ties. Surely Allah is ever Watchful over you.

(Quran 4:1)

O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.

He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
(Quran 33: 70-71)

The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammadﷺ. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.

May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.

Dear respected brothers & sisters;

We would like to mention today about the upcoming Ramadhan, may Allah give us the opportunity to experience this blessed month again this year and for many more years to come. Ameen.

The Coronavirus has been with us one year now, SubhanAllah. Last year, many masaajid were closed during the first wave of the pandemic, and we prayed our tarawikh salah at home or in very small secluded groups.

We are now in the tail end of the third wave. Allah knows best, but there is a possibility many places of worship may be forced to not allow congregational prayers again this year.

Many of us may feel saddened or disappointed should this come to pass, but do not ever forget it is Allah Who created the Coronavirus, Allah Who caused the pandemic in His Infinite Wisdom, and it is Allah SWT Alone Who can lift this trial from us. Allah is Al Jabbar (The Compelling), Al Mutakabbir (The Majestic).

Let us remind ourselves what the closest companion of the Prophet  said following another great calamity, which was the death of the beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Ibn Abbas RA reported: Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, went to the door of the mosque when he heard the news of the passing of the Prophet . Abu Bakr RA said, “To proceed: Whoever amongst you worships Muhammad ﷺ, then Muhammad (ﷺ) has died. Whoever worships Allah, then Allah is alive and cannot die. Allah Almighty said:

Muhammad (ﷺ) is not but a messenger; messengers have passed before him. If he dies or is killed, will you turn back on your heels (to unbelief)?” ...

(Quran 3:144)

Ibn Abbas RA said, “By Allah, it was as if the people had not known that Allah revealed this verse until Abu Bakr RA recited it.”

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

We do not know yet how this Ramadhan will look like in terms of our worship. But whatever happens, it is more important for us as Muslims to accept Allah's decree and not get overly saddened or upset.

Taking the wisdom of the Prophet's ﷺ closest companion and first khalifah of Islam Abu Bakr As-Siddiq RA, we say, "Whoever amongst you worships Ramadhan, then Ramadhan will come and go. Whoever worships Allah, then Allah is alive and cannot die".

May Allah SWT forgive us and accept our dua.

Second khutbah:

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

There is a hidden blessing in every trial, including the Coronavirus. We praise and thank Allah in all circumstancesWe must do our best to gain taqwa of Allah at all times, not just in Ramadhan.

We see a lot of information on social media highlighting the countdown towards Ramadhan, how many weeks or days are left.

We say, "Don't count the days, but make each day count."

There is no guarantee we will see tomorrow.

May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Dua:

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

(Quran 16:90)
