Preparing for Your Ramadhan

Written on 03/03/2021

Indeed all praise is due to Allah; we seek His help, and we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever Allah misguides, none can guide. We bear witness there is no diety worthy of worship except for Allah, the One Who has no partner, and we bear witness that Muhammad  is His servant and messenger.

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

(Quran 3: 102)

O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.

(Quran 4:1)

O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.

He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
(Quran 33: 70-71)

The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammadﷺ. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.

May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.

My dear respected brothers & sisters;

Every year at the end of each Ramadhan we would say how fast time is passing and we cannot believe another Ramadhan is nearly over.

This coming Ramadhan and future months would not be any different. The passage of time is one of the great signs of Allah; Allah The Absolute; The One not limited by time, space or circumstance.

Many of us regret at the end of each Ramadhan that we did not achieve what we wanted. Ramadhan will depart as suddenly as it arrives.

One recommended way to better prepare ourselves is to actually visualise that Ramadhan is already here, and start doing the good acts now. One scholar advised that if one wishes to view a flying star, one gets the equipment ready well beforehand and not at the expected time, so as not to miss it.

We all already know the good acts we should do during Ramadan, in addition to fasting. These include making plenty of dua, zikr, istighfar, praying Tahajjud, giving sadaqah, connecting with the Quran, forgiving one another, reestablishing family ties, and perfecting our speech and manners.

We should start doing these acts now, so they would be well established when Ramadhan arrives and we do not get caught out.

May Allah SWT allow us to experience this coming Ramadhan and many more in the future. May Allah SWT forgive us, accept our dua and good deeds. Ameen.

Second khutbah:

Abu Huraira RA reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Take up good deeds only as much as you are able, for the best deeds are those done regularly even if they are few.”

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

Think back to previous khutbahs or lectures on Ramadhan; surely some would mention how our good deeds reduce significantly after Ramadhan, almost immediately after the Eid salah.

Let us make strong intentions to maintain a level of consistency with our worship of Allah SWT.

Let us follow the advice of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and do good deeds even if they are few but done regularly.

Some practical examples include treating our family with the best of manners, ringing our parents every weekend, making monthly donations to an orphan, shopping for an elderly neighbour on certain days, making dua for others after each salah, and many more humble acts of worship and kindness.

Usamah ibn Zayd RA reported: The Messenger of Allah  said, “The most grateful of people to Allah are those who are most grateful to people.”

Indeed Allah is Ash-Shakur, the Most Appreciative. No deed is overlooked, no matter how seemingly small in other peoples' eyes.

Of course increase our ibadah during special periods like Ramadhan, but let us strive for some level of consistency throughout the year.

May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Dua:

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

(Quran 16:90)
