Indeed all praise is due to Allah; we seek His help, and we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever Allah misguides, none can guide. We bear witness there is no diety worthy of worship except for Allah, the One Who has no partner, and we bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and messenger.
O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].
(Quran 3: 102)
O humanity! Be mindful of your Lord Who created you from a single soul, and from it He created its mate, and through both He spread countless men and women. And be mindful of Allah—in Whose Name you appeal to one another—and honour family ties. Surely Allah is ever Watchful over you.
O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.
He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
(Quran 33: 70-71)
The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammadﷺ. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation, and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.
May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.
Dear respected brothers and sisters;
Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for the blessings of the day of Jummah, in the month of Ramadhan.
Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for gathering us here today after so many months being apart due to the pandemic.
As we all know, today is the final Jummah for this year's Ramadhan. We mentioned in a previous khutbah, how every year at the end of each Ramadhan, we would say how fast time is passing and we cannot believe another Ramadhan is nearly over.
This Ramadhan has not been any different; the end is fast approaching. The passage of time is one of the great signs of Allah; Allah The Absolute. Ramadhan will depart as suddenly as it arrived, and with it a warning that we are steadily getting older, with less time in this dunia.
Dear respected brothers and sisters;
Time is much more precious than gold, because time is what our lives are made of.
( A great martial artist, Bruce Lee, once said: If you love life, don't waste time, for time is what life is made up of. )
If time stops for someone in this dunia, then they have passed on to the next life. We know that thousands upon thousands of people every single day have their time in this dunia stopped, and they would not see today's Jummah, nor next week's Eid, nor next year's Ramadhan. We ask Allah SWT to extend our lives and of our loved ones. Ameen.
Therefore, let us make strong intentions not to waste any more of our precious lives; we still have a few blessed days and nights of Ramadhan to do more ibadah, to make dua and ask for forgiveness from our Rabb. We also take this opportunity to remind ourselves to pay our obligatory Zakat for this year.
To proceed, we are still in the last 10 days of Ramadhan. We do not know for certain if the Night of Decree, Laylatul Qadr, has already passed us or still ahead of us. We all know the importance of this night; a time to reap unimaginable rewards, whereby a single act of worship is blessed with more than a lifetime's worth of reward. Hence, let us continue our efforts until the very end.
We remind ourselves of the previous khutbah, when Aisha RA reported: When the last ten nights of Ramadhan arrived, the Prophet ﷺ would tighten his belt, spend the night in worship, and awaken his family.
In another narration, Aisha RA said: The Prophet (ﷺ) would exert himself in worship during the last ten nights of Ramadhan more so than any other time.
We ask Allah SWT to forgive us and accept our ibadah.
Ibn Abbas RA reported: The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the Night of Decree, “It is a calm night, neither hot nor cold, and the sun arises on it red and feeble.”
The Prophet ﷺ taught us a great dua which we should be reciting frequently; Aisha RA reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), if I know which night is the Night of Decree, what should I say during it?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Say: O Allah, You are pardoning and generous. You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.
Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
