O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

(Quran 3: 102)

May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for allowing us to gather today and witness the day of Eid.

Alhamdulillah, we make shukur to Allah SWT for allowing us to again fast the longer days of the year, to stay up and pray the night prayers, to wake up very early to do the suhur, then go back to sleep and wake up again to go to school or work whilst fasting, missing our usual breaks and lunch. This cycle of fasting, late nights and broken sleep was not just for a few days but a whole month.

All the physical requirements of the human body which we need, or that we think we need, were turned upside down this entire month. Plus being in the middle of a pandemic with a deadly virus. Yet Alhamdulillah with the Help and Mercy of Allah SWT here we are all today, feeling physically, mentally, and spiritually fitter and healthier than we have ever felt throughout the year. Indeed Ramadhan is a miracle in many ways we could not imagine.

Despite the public health restrictions, we found other ways to boost our spirituality, being more independent with our ibadah; establishing the tarawikh prayers in very small groups or at home for example, resulting in a quieter Ramadhan and a feeling of greater personal connection with Allah SWT.

Now we must maintain and cling very tightly to this feeling of closeness with Allah SWT.

The companion Abu Huraira RA reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “On the first night of the month of Ramadhan, the devils are chained, the jinn are restrained, and the gates of Hellfire are closed and none of its gates are opened. The gates of Paradise are opened and none of its gates are closed...."

Therefore with these great events, the chaining of the devils, the gates of Paradise being opened, and the gates of Hell closed, we found it easier to do many good acts during

Ramadhan. Now the challenge is to keep the momentum going for the coming year. We can use the 6 sunnah fasts of Syawwal for this purpose, as well as continuing with the night prayers, praying in the masjid and maintaing the habit of reading and contemplating the Quran.

Importantly, we should continue to give support for those in desperate need all over the world through our dua and charity. We also have our own brothers and sisters in Ireland who may

need our help.

In addition we should cultivate the restraint in our speech and actions, which was one of the purposes of Ramadhan; when Abu Huraira RA reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever does not leave evil words and deeds while fasting, Allah does not need him to leave food and drink.”

We thank Allah SWT for the opportunity of witnessing Ramadhan; may we and our loved ones witness many more. Ameen.

Second khutbah:

Dear respected brothers & sisters;

Eid is indeed a time for joy and celebration.

Aisha RA reported: Abu Bakr (RA) came to her on the day of Eid while the Prophet ﷺ was with her and there were two girls singing songs of the Ansar on the day of Bu’ath. Abu Bakr RA said twice, “Musical instruments of Satan!” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Leave them Abu Bakr. Verily, every community has a celebration and this day is our celebration.”

In another narration, Muhammad ibn Ziyad RA reported: I was with Abu Umamah al-Bahili and others among the companions (RA) of the Prophet ﷺ. When they would return from Eid prayer, they would say to each other, “May Allah accept good deeds from us and from you.”

May Allah SWT also accept our good deeds and our our dua; we ask Allah SWT for Afiah in our dunia and akhirah, to forgive our parents, elders and loved ones. We ask Allah SWT to relieve the suffering of the Ummah and the suffering of all of His creation. We ask Allah SWT to bless Ireland where we practice our deen in security, and the people of Ireland who have fought to relieve the suffering of others around the world. We ask Allah SWT to give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Dua:

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

(Quran 16:90)
