Post Ramadhan Khutbah

Written on 05/14/2021

Indeed all praise is due to Allah; we seek His help, and we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide, and whomsoever Allah misguides, none can guide. We bear witness there is no diety worthy of worship except for Allah, the One Who has no partner, and we bear witness that Muhammad  is His servant and messenger.

O you who have believed, fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except as Muslims [in submission to Him].

(Quran 3: 102)

O humanity! Be mindful of your Lord Who created you from a single soul, and from it He created its mate, and through both He spread countless men and women. And be mindful of Allah—in Whose Name you appeal to one another—and honour family ties. Surely Allah is ever Watchful over you.

(Quran 4:1)

O you who have believed, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate justice.
He will [then] amend for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great attainment.
(Quran 33: 70-71)

The truest of word is the Book of Allah and best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammadﷺ. The worst of things are those that are newly invented; every newly-invented thing is an innovation, and every innovation is going astray, and every going astray is in the Fire.

May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

We are just one day after Ramadhan and I am sure we have already started to feel the spiritual impact of its passing, This is in part influenced by the was-was of Shaytan. Allah SWT knows best.

It is important to re-establish a routine for our ibadah as soon as possible, just as we had a routine during Ramadhan.

A Muslim would be in loss if he failed to gain forgiveness from Allah SWT during Ramadhan. Similarly, it would be a great loss if the state of closeness to Allah SWT a Muslim had gained during Ramadhan became eroded away with Ramadhan's passing.

As was mentioned before, "Whoever amongst you worships Ramadhan, then Ramadhan will come and go. Whoever worships Allah, then Allah is alive and cannot die".

With the Mercy of Allah SWT, the masajid all over Ireland have officially reopened. I remind myself first and foremost to make the salah in jammah with the other brothers.

As we saw yesterday during the Eid salah and today, we have a significant Muslim population living locally; we should take advantage of this masjid whilst Allah SWT blesses us with it and come pray regularly. There was a time a few years ago when we had no masjid, which was a very difficult period, many having to travel far to do the salah. Now we have a nice masjid at our very door step, we should not use it for special occasions only. What a calamity it would be if Allah SWT decides to take this blessing away from us; we seek refuge in Allah from such a trial. Ameen.

At the same time, as was emphasised very strongly yesterday, we should also respect this House of Allah and use it with the best of adab. We must treat this House of Allah even better than our own houses, better than our own offices or work places. Imagine if we were invited to the House of the President of Ireland in Phoenix Park, or the White House in Washington DC, how would we behave? How would we park our cars, or how would we use the facilities? Would we leave any rubbish lying around? Would we talk and laugh in loud voices? The answers are obvious, because we would feel in awe of the president and be in our best behaviour.

Well, dear brothers and sisters, this small humble masjid is not a President's House, but the Owner is Infinitely Greater: He is Allah SWT, Malik ul Mulk, The King of Kings, so greater respect and sense of responsibility from us are warranted.

We nurtured our relationship with Allah SWT during Ramadhan, so we must now be better people; there should be change and progress from Ramadhan to Ramadhan, from Jummah to Jummah, even from one salah to the next.

Alhamdulillah any Muslim is free to walk into any masjid anywhere in the world, simply by virtue of being a Muslim, but in turn I remind myself first and foremost not to abuse this right by not giving the Houses of Allah their due respect. Sometimes we can be quick to demand our rights, but we must also recognise the rights of others.

May Allah SWT forgive us for any error and shortcoming, and allow us to be the best of people, with the best of character, worthy of our Islam. Ameen.

Second khutbah:

As follow up to yesterday's Eid khutbah:

Abu Ayyub RA reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever fasts the month of Ramadan and then follows it with six days of fasting in the month of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for the entire year.

From a physical point of view, the fasts of Shawwal would allow a gradual transition for our bodies from daily fasting to intermittent fasting.

Spiritually, the rewards are great InshaAllah and would help maintain the higher level of connection with Allah SWT.

If we can fast 30 consecutive days, InshaAllah we can do 6 over this month.

May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit you from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Dua:

Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.

(Quran 16:90)
