All praise is due to Allah SWT, Lord of the worlds, The Cherisher, The Sustainer. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for allowing us to gather today and witness the day of Eid.

Eid Ul Adha is synonymous with 2 great events in Islam:

Firstly, we affirm the steadfastness of Ibrahim and Ismail, peace and blessings of Allah SWT be upon them, when they obeyed Allah's command in carrying out the ultimate sacrifice, where a father was ordered to sacrifice his beloved son.

Secondly, Eid Ul Adha is associated with the Hajj (or pilgrimage), which is one of the pillars of Islam. As we are all aware, through the Will of Allah SWT, only a limited number are able to perform their Hajj this year due to the pandemic, with a possibility that such restrictions in numbers may even continue in future years.

Allah SWT has decreed, through the Covid-19 virus, restrictions of large gatherings including religious events. Covid-19 is proving to be a highly adaptable virus, able to continually change and mutate into more dangerous variants.

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: The Prophet ﷺ was asked, “What is the best deed?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Faith in Allah and His Messenger.” It was said, “Then what?” The Prophet  said, “Jihad in the way of Allah.” It was said, “Then what?” The Prophet  said, “A blessed Hajj (حَجٌّ مَبْرُورٌ).

Hajj Mabrur may also mean an accepted Hajj; accepted by Allah SWT. And Allah SWT accepts only that which is pure.

Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “O people, Allah is pure and He accepts only what is pure. Verily, Allah has commanded the believers as He has commanded His messengers. Allah said: O Messengers, eat from good things and act righteously, for I know what you do (Quran 23:51). And Allah said: O you who believe, eat from good things We have provided for you,” (Quran 2:172).

Then, the Prophet
ﷺ mentioned a man who traveled far, becoming disheveled and dusty and he raises his hands to the sky, saying, “O Lord! O Lord!” while his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he is nourished by the unlawful, so how can he be answered?

From this hadith, we learn that Allah SWT accepts deeds which are pure and lawful. Therefore let us self reflect, and look sincerely at our own individual situation. Look into our intentions and our actions. If impurities exist, we must take steps to correct these. It would be a waste if all our efforts and sacrifice in performing our ibadah, especially our Hajj, were not accepted by Allah SWT due to any impurities and unlawful qualities.

In Allah's Wisdom, many are not getting the opportunity to attend His House for Hajj this year. Perhaps Allah SWT is giving us the opportunity to make sincere tawbah and rectify our personal situation first. And Allah SWT knows best.

Allah SWT says:

O mankind, eat from whatever is on earth [that is] lawful and good and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy.

He only orders you to evil and immorality and to say about Allah what you do not know.

(Quran 2: 168-169)

May Allah SWT help us to purify our hearts, purify our actions, and allow us to perform our Hajj and Umrah in the near future. Ameen.

Second khutbah:

Dear respected brothers & sisters;

Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “The pilgrims of Hajj and Umrah are the guests of Allah. He called them and they answered Him. They ask from Him and He gives them.”

In another narration, Abdullah ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would answer the call of the Hajj, saying:

“At Your service, O Allah, at Your service. At Your service, You have no partner, at Your service. Verily, all praise and blessings are for You, the dominion belongs to You, and You have no partner.”

May Allah SWT invite us, our loved ones and the Muslim Ummah to His House as His guests. May we answer the call of the Hajj as true servants of Allah SWT.

We ask Allah SWT to give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Dua:

Dear respected brothers and sisters,
