Feet of a servant

All praise is due to Allah SWT, Lord of the worlds, The Cherisher, The Sustainer.

May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Reckoning.

My dear respected brothers & sisters;

Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for the blessings of Jummah and for allowing us to gather here today.

We remind ourselves to fear Allah SWT as He should be feared. Fear Allah in all places and in all situations, at home and at work, in public and in private, and do not transgress His limits.

Allah Subhanahu-Wata'ala (SWT) describes Himself in Surah Al-Fatihah:

"Master of the Day of Judgement."

(Quran 1:4)

Allah SWT is the only Judge and Master on the Day of Qiamah. All of our deeds, the good and bad actions, will be scrutinised by Allah, no matter how small.

Mu’adh ibn Jabal, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

The Messenger of Allah  said, “The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about four matters: his lifetime and how he used it, his youth and how he exhausted it, his wealth and how he earned it and spent it, and his knowledge and how he acted upon it.”

From this hadith, we are reminded that we are not placed in this world without a reason; just living aimlessly without a higher cause. We will meet Allah SWT one day, the True Judge.

Many of us here are no longer young, with signs of aging very clear in our physical features, although we continue to be in a state of denial. Allah SWT will judge every single moment of our lives, including the time when we were young and how we spent it.

Allah SWT will ask us about our wealth and our actions after acquiring the right knowledge.

Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, would say:

If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening. Take from your health for your sickness, and take from your life for your death.

Respected brothers and sisters;

We should behave with the belief that the world is temporary. We should ask Allah for goodness and comfort along our journey, but we must keep in mind that the final destination is the grave and the Day of Resurrection.

Therefore, let us take this Jummah and this khutbah as opportunities to reflect deeply upon our lives and on where we are heading, because without doubt our lives in this world will come to their conclusions.

Let us make strong intentions now to dedicate ourselves in the service of Allah SWT, to look for opportunities to do good in helping others, and prepare for our meeting with Allah SWT.

We ask Allah SWT to rectify our affairs and relieve any hardship. Ameen.

Second khutbah:

Respected brothers and sisters;

On saying the above, Islam is a religion of balance and moderation, so we should focus our dua and actions for goodness in this life and in the Hereafter.

Allah SWT says:

Our Lord, give us goodness in this life and goodness in the Hereafter and save us from the punishment of the Hellfire.

(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:201)

We are permitted to ask Allah for goodness in this life and we should not let our preparation for the Hereafter cause us to neglect our duties and obligations in the dunia.

The Prophet ﷺ would ask Allah SWT for good things in this life such as well-being, health, and ease, and so should we.

May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Dua:
