A Healthy Ramadhan

إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ لِلَّهِ ، نَحْمَدُهُ وَنَسْتَعِينُهُ وَنَسْتَغْفِرُهُ

وَنَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنْ شُرُورِ أَنْفُسِنَا وَمِنْ سَيِّئَاتِ أَعْمَالِنَا

مَنْ يَهْدِهِ ٱللَّهُ فَلا مُضِلَّ لَهُ، وَمَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَا هَادِيَ لَهُ 

وَنَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا  ٱللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ

وَنَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ  

 

قَالَ ٱللَّهُ تَعَالَى؛ (أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ تُقَاتِهِۦ

وَلَا تَمُوتُنَّ إِلَّا  وَأَنْتُمْ مُسْلِمُونَ 

(Quran 3:102)

 

وَقَالَ تَعَالَى؛

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا النَّاسُاتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمُ الَّذِي خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ

وَخَلَقَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَبَثَّ مِنْهُمَا رِجَالاً كَثِيراً وَنِسَآءً  ۚ 

وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ الَّذِي تَسَآءَلُونَ بِهِۦوَالْأَرْحَامَ  ۚ 

إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلَيْكُمْ رَقِيباً

(Quran 4:1)

 

وَقَالَ تَعَالَى؛

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَقُولُوا قَوْلاً سَدِيداً

يُصْلِحْ لَكُمْ أَعْمَالَكُمْ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوبَكُمْ  ۗ

وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدْ فَازَ فَوْزاً عَظِيماً

(Quran 33: 70-71)

 

فَإِنَّ أَصْدَقَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابُ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى

وَأَحْسَنُ الْهَدْيِ هَدْيُ مُحَمَّدٍ   

وَشَرُّالأُمُورِ مُحْدَثَاتُهَا وَكُلُّ مُحْدَثَةٍ بِدْعَةٌ 

وَكُلُّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلالَةٌ  وَكُلُّ ضَلالَةٍ فِي النَّارِ

 

أَمَّا بَعْدُ

 

All praise is due to Allah SWT, Lord of the worlds, The Cherisher, The Sustainer. 
May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad 
, his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.


Dear respected brothers & sisters;

 

Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for the blessings of Jummah and for allowing us to gather here today. 

We remind ourselves to fear Allah SWT as He should be feared. Fear Allah in all places and in all situations, at home and at work, in public and in private, and do not transgress His limits.

 

Alhamdulillah! We are now in the shadow of the great month of Ramadhan. Already, we can feel our bodies, minds and spirits adjusting to receive this blessed month.


A good practice at this early stage is to check our body weight and see if we are in the healthy range according to our body mass index or BMI.

 

With better eating habits that fasting should promote, this is the ideal opportunity to tackle obesity, a very common disease amongst our communities.

 

We should aim for a healthy body weight this Ramadhan. With a moderate food intake, we should experience a decrease in weight over the next four weeks.

 

Unfortunately, many of us actually gain weight during Ramadhan despite hours upon hours of fasting. Why? One main reason is that we eat too much for suhur and iftar. We joke about this with our friends and colleagues, although it is a very serious matter.

 

Obesity, or excessively high body weight, is a serious illness that is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, joint problems and certain types of cancer.

 

‘Ubaydullah ibn Mihsan, may Allah be pleased with him, reported:

The Messenger of Allah  said, “Whoever amongst you wakes up secure in his property, healthy in his body, and he has his food for the day, it is as if he were given the entire world.”

 

From this hadith, we learn that our health is so important, as people who have experienced illness can testify.


Without good health, we cannot do many things, including performing our ibadah like we want to. 
 

Our health is one of the greatest blessings from Allah SWT. We only know its worth when Allah takes it away from someone; may Allah bless us with good health. Ameen.
 

So let us use this Ramadhan as a means to tackle obesity and all its complications, to start shedding those extra few kilograms,  by eating moderately, to develop good eating habits and inshaAllah be healthier after Ramadhan as well.

 

Another serious health problem affecting our communities is cigarette smoking, which is strongly linked to cancer and cardiovascular disease. Ramadhan is the best time to tackle this issue, if we have the intention to do so, inshaAllah.
 

In addition to making dua to Allah SWT, we should seek advice from our GPs and other health professionals to help manage our health.

 

Let us make this Ramadhan a healthy one, inshaAllah. We ask Allah SWT to bless us and our loved ones with complete Shifa and Afiah in the dunia and the akhirah. Ameen.

 

أَقُولُ قَوْ لِي هَذَا، وأَسْتِغْفِرُاللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ لِي وَلَكُمْ

وَلِسَائِرِالْمُسْلِمِينِ ، فَاسْتَغْفِرُوهُ ، إِنَّهُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ

 


Second khutbah:

 

بِسْمِ اللهِ، وَالْحَمْدُ للهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ 

صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ

 

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : 

بَلِّغُوا عَنِّي وَلَوْ آيَةً

 

Dear respected brothers & sisters;

 

If we were to do only one specific dua in Ramadhan, especially in the last 10 nights, which dua should we make? 

 

In a hadith, the Prophet encouraged his wife Aisyah, may Allah be pleased with her, to read the following supplication if one were to meet Lailatul Qadar, the night that is better than a thousand months:

 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي

"O Allah, You are indeed Forgiving and love to forgive, so forgive me."

(Sunan At-Tirmizi)


We should memorise this great dua, and start reciting it as much as possible. We hope to complete this Ramadhan with all our sins forgiven and wiped clean by Allah SWT.

 

May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

 

Dua:

اَللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِلْمُسْلِمِيْنَ وَالْمُسْلِمَاتِ

وَالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ اْلأَحْيَاءِ مِنْهُمْ وَاْلأَمْوَاتِ

إِنَّكَ سَمِيْعٌ قَرِيْبٌ مُجِيْبُ الدَّعَوَاتِ

 

رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَآ إِن نَّسِينَآ أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا ۚ

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَآ إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُۥ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِنَا ۚ 

رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِۦ ۖ وَٱعْفُ عَنَّاوَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَآ ۚأَنْتَ مَوْلَىٰنَا فَٱنْصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

 

رَبَّنَآ أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَثَبِّتْ أَقْدَامَنَا 

وَٱنصُرْنَا عَلَى ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ

 

رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا

وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَالْخَاسِرِينَ

 

رَبَّنَآ ءَامَنَّا فَٱغْفِرْ لَنَا وَٱرْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلرَّٰحِمِينَ


رَبَّنَا لاَ تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً 

إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ

 

رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً  
وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

 

عِبَادَ اللَّهِ؛ 

إنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ  وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ  

وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ ۚ

يَعِظُكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

(Quran 16:90)
 

فَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ يَذْكُرْكُمْ، وَاشْكُرُوهُ عَلَى نِعَمِهِ يَزِدْكُمْ  

وَلَذِكْرُ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ، وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تَصْنَعُونَ

  

وَأَقِمِ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
