All praise is due to Allah SWT, Lord of the worlds, The Cherisher, The Sustainer. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad , his noble family, his companions and all those who follow their guidance till the Day of Qiamah.

Dear respected brothers and sisters;

Alhamdulillah, we thank Allah SWT for allowing us to gather today and to witness the day of Eid.

Eid Ul Adha is synonymous with one family, and that is the noble family of Ibrahim

We commemorate the great sacrifice of Ibrahim and Ismail, peace be upon them, involving the sacrificial ram, when Allah SWT tested the iman of a loving father and a devoted son, by ordering that Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ should sacrifice his beloved son.

It is easy for us who know the ending of the story, that Allah SWT would replace the son with a ram as the blade struck, but they did not know this at the time. Whether one is a prophet or not, this was a very severe test indeed.

We also recall the trials of Ismail's mother Hajar, peace be upon them, as she ran desperately looking for help for her thirsty infant son between the hills of Safa and Marwa, alone in a harsh desert, before the Angel Jibril عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ brought forth the well of Zam zam.

Respected brothers and sisters;

Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ family’s stories were about sacrifice. We are encouraged to take the lesson of sacrificing our time, energy and wealth in performing acts of goodness and kindness for Allah’s cause.

Sacrifice at times involves making difficult heart-breaking decisions, or giving up something we treasure, but we do so for the sake of Allah SWT.

Secondly, their story was about family, of the love between parent and child. Without a mother’s love, there would be no Sa'ee between Safa and Marwa, no Zam zam water, and ultimately, no city of Mekah.

Without a father's love and a child's bravery, there would be no sacrifice, no Qurbani.

Therefore, for those whose parents are still with them, cherish every single moment left together on this Earth, as no one loves more selflessly, makes dua more sincerely, than parents.

For those whose parents have returned to Allah SWT, they need their children's dua now more than ever. So make dua for our parents wherever they are.

Parents should also cherish the

special relationship with their children. Reduce any distractions and spend more quality time; sacrifice the need for rest to bond with them, especially when they are still small, because all too soon they will grow up and lead lives of their own.

May Allah SWT give us tawfiq to benefit from the sacrifices of Ibrahim, Hajar and Ismail, peace be upon them all.

We also ask Allah SWT to replace what we sacrificed in this dunia for His sake, with the everlasting rewards in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.

Second khutbah:

Dear respected brothers & sisters;

As we know, Eid Ul Adha also commemorates the Hajj, one of the pillars of Islam.

Through the Will of Allah SWT, only a limited number are able to perform their Hajj again this year due to health restrictions.

But what is the wisdom behind this? Does not Allah SWT want His worshippers to gather in our millions at His House?

The Prophet  once said that amongst the best deeds was a blessed Hajj (or حَجٌّ مَبْرُورٌ).

Hajj Mabrur may also mean an accepted Hajj. Accepted by Allah, and Allah SWT accepts only that which is pure.

Perhaps Allah SWT is delaying His invitation for Hajj for some of us, to reflect deeply on our intentions, our wealth and daily habits, and take steps to cleanse them of any spiritual impurities.

InshaAllah, we all would soon become guests to the House of Allah, and answer the call of the Hajj, just like the Messenger of Allah  would answer the call of the Hajj, saying:

“At Your service, O Allah, at Your service. At Your service, You have no partner, at Your service. Verily, all praise and blessings are for You, the dominion belongs to You, and You have no partner.”

Finally, we end our khutbah with the most beautiful of meetings, between two of the most beloved people to Allah, when Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ came face to face with our beloved Muhammad , a meeting which spanned centuries through the Power and Will of Allah SWT, during the miraculous night of Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj.

The Messenger of Allah  said, “I met Ibrahim on the night of my Ascension and he said: O Muhammad, greet your nation with peace from me. Tell them Paradise has pure soil and delicious water, that it is a level plain and its plants grow with declarations of the glory of Allah, the praise of Allah, the oneness of Allah, and the greatness of Allah.”

Respected brothers and sisters;

Ibrahim  عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ gave us a glimpse of Jannah, our final home inshaAllah. That it is a flat plane and Allah SWT will cause plants, trees and flowers to grow with His remembrance.

So on this blessed day of Eid, and days to come, let us keep the constant remembrance of Allah SWT on our tongues and in our hearts, by saying:

...so that when we enter Jannah, we will see giant gardens and forests of countless beautiful trees and plants, inshaAllah.

Dua:

We ask Allah SWT to give us tawfiq to remember Him, to make dua to Him, and to put our trust in Him in all our affairs.

We ask Allah SWT to forgive all our sins, to forgive our parents, elders and loved ones.

We ask Allah SWT to accept our good deeds and answer our dua.

We ask Allah SWT for Afiah in our dunia and akhira.

We ask Allah SWT to guide and protect our children, to bestow upon them good character, and for the light of iman, tauhid and taqwa to penetrate their hearts.

We ask Allah SWT to give honour and relieve the suffering of the Muslim Ummah all over the world, and relieve the suffering and distress of all of His creation, especially the children, women and elderly.

We ask Allah SWT for protection against evil in all its form, especially the whisperings of the Shayateen, amongst the jinn and the human.

We ask Allah SWT for the benefit of everything that Muhammad  asked for, and seek refuge from everything that Muhammad  sought protection from.

We ask Allah SWT to bless Ireland where we practice our deen in safety and security, and to bless the people of Ireland who have fought to relieve the suffering of others around the world.

We ask Allah SWT to save us, and our loved ones, from the trials of this world, the barzakh, and the hereafter.

We ask Allah SWT to gather all of us, with all our families and friends, in Jannatul Firdaus with Muhammad ﷺ.

We ask Allah SWT to give us tawfiq to benefit from what has been shared today. Ameen.

Respected brothers and sisters;

Eid Mubarak!

May Allah SWT accept our good deeds.
